What advice would you give newbie entrepreneurs about being successful?
Head of Communications at British Consulate General of New York
Toby Usnik
Ask yourself to what end you’re doing what you’re doing? If it’s to be successful or make money, then aim higher. Figure out what the difference is that you’re hoping to make in the world and why. The more your answer is one that elevates others along with you, the closer you will be to having a successful career, life and legacy.

Never let anyone discourage you from following your path. Take the time to learn from others but do not assume others will understand your path forward better than you. Do learn from leaders that inspire you and be autentic in everything you do.

Don’t focus on the end result, focus on what it takes to make the end result possible. Consider success your reward, not your goal. Look at any great sports team. The best teams focus on getting better each and every day. Team members are accountable to one another, pay attention to detail, take things one day at a time, and celebrate small wins along the way. Those are the teams who win championships – not a bad formula for the newbie entrepreneur either

The main thing is you do not need to have it all figured out early in your career. Your first job is just a learning experience. Don’t worry about immediately finding your dream job.
Aim to eventually love what you do. Then you will then never really “work” a day in your life. But it may be long discovery process before you get there.
Here is my advice as a list to anyone starting early in their career and then progressing:
Respect your family, Be curious, Work hard, Get confidence in yourself, Dream with ambition, Focus on your future, Follow your instincts, Be social – join groups, Study hard and keep learning. It is OK to achieve, Distinguish yourself, Build your CV resume, Exhibit leadership, Pursue what you enjoy, Excel at communicating, Have a bias toward action, Travel internationally, and Learn to how to cope with failures.

That success is not a friend of the weak, of those who doubt, of those who surrender quickly. Many times knowledge is important, but it is useless without a winning, humble, honest and responsible attitude. To be a winner is not only to reach a goal, it is to leave footprints in society.

Your own innate leadership qualities maybe deeply buried, but by facing new challenges it is possible to uncover them.
Don’t try to make anything perfect. Instead make it interesting.

There are so many paths to success; an overwhelming number of ways to build a brand or product. My best advice is to recognize a niche you have an interest or experience in. Identify the key players in that niche then analyze what you need to do to beat them. Weigh scenarios before acting on them. Be both prescriptive and realistic.
